EXOTZAMITE, BUCHITE
Very rare glassy volcanic specimens from Rother Kopf/Eifel in Germany. Melted and vitrified by lava, bluish-green colored quartz rock inclusions. They were formed at contact zones between volcanic production and existing red sandstones. It was given the name “Buchite” in honor of the geologist Christian L. von Buch (1774-1853). Due to their partially artificial appearance, the geologist Carl Thomae (1835) remarked: “Anyone who did not pull the pieces out of the brown slag himself would swear that they came from a porcelain oven.” Some pieces are available upon request.
