Examples of Dragonglass obsidian as in shape, size and structure
Collection of Dragonglass Obsidian (8-330g) from Milos, Greece. Various shapes, structures, colours and sizes. It is the only european obsidian that resembles tektites in both texture and shape variations. After three years of research, collecting, and field expeditions, we were able to compile, for the first time, a study focusing on the round and structured obsidian from Milos, which we have dubbed “Dragonglass obsidian” in the course of our work. In 2024, we began introducing Dragonglass obsidian to a global collector community that primarily deals with natural glasses, such as tektites and volcanic glass. This is intended to help ensure the preservation of this unique and rare obsidian from Europe. The aim of this study is to establish and expand the understanding of Dragonglass obsidian, thus laying the foundation for a better knowledge and comprehension of the formation of phreatic obsidians as a rare and unique natural phenomenon. Some pieces are available upon request. For all inquiries, send an email dragonglassobsidian[at]gmail.com
